Almost 3 dozen MECC members and guests enjoyed a hearty Chicken Soup starter and sumptuous Roast Lamb main course for yesterday’s inaugural Sunday Family Roast at the Mount Eliza Country Club. The event was a sell out success, but we still found room for one late starter.

Committee member Ian Leslie came up with the concept of an easy going Sunday Lunch for MECC members and guests and arranged for Wise Choice Fine Foods to cater for the day. The concept and food were appreciated by all attending. Congratulations Ian!

Children of members and guests enjoyed a tasty BBQ lunch cooked by MECC Vice-President Shane Gillard. They also had their own separate activities room for Playstation and X Box games, and received a lolly bag reward.

“The concept of a family day at the club has been supported and really well received by our members” said Club president Paul Abel. “Committee members (and fathers) Matt Kirk and Warren Walsh donated their own time, effort and equipment to ensure the kids had a great day, right alongside Mum and Dad.”

There was a table prize of a bottle of Sparking or Red Wine for each table, and a complimentary Port to go with the excellent cheese platters.

“One of the keys to the future success of the MECC are events like this. To turn our only non-trading day into a day of good member participation, equates to good bar takings” said Club president Paul Abel. “Without a rejuvenated membership base, and event participation by members, we cannot go forward in areas of refurbishment and renovation. These are necessary ongoing works to provide a quality of membership and surrounds to all our valued members and guests.”

The next social event at the Mount Eliza Country Club is a Bite Night-Supper Club with a Scandinavian theme scheduled for Friday 22nd June, menu and pricing to come shortly. Until then...

The MECC present these outstanding reds for our "TRILOGY RAFFLE".

At $10/ticket, you'd be mad not to get a few. Look out for these next time you're at the bar.

    Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2009

    < BIN 389 CABERNET SHIRAZ 2009

"Baby Grange" A magnificent blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

    BIN 707 CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2009 >

The ultimate expression of the Penfolds' house-red style. Sleek dark

berry and dark chocolate characters dominate with plenty of

natural fruit sweetness. The tannins are present, but not overwhelming.

The 2009 707 will prove to be one of the stellar examples

    St Henri Shiraz 2008

The Peter Daicos Sportsman’s Lunch was held at the Club on Friday 27th April. Approximately 40 members and their guests thoroughly enjoyed the day. A big thank you to MECC member Cliff Hall who helped the MECC secure Peter Daicos as our guest speaker. Thanks also to Ian Leslie, Matt Kirk, Craig Wells and Grant Andersen who helped set up for the function.

In his talk to us, Peter provided all attending with his full background to playing with Collingwood while still at high school, and through all the highs and lows of his career, with a question and answer session to conclude. An easy going and very social bloke, he provided conversation and photo opportunities to all members and their guests.

Peter brought a geurnsey to auction, which sold to a guest on the day for $350.00. A Collingwood football was also auctioned, going to member Gerry Lewis for $150.00. I believe Gerry is placing it on his TV for his Essendon barracking sons to admire. The MECC presented a smallgoods and cheese hamper to Peter as a token of our appreciation. Thanks to Matt and Kim Kirk - Kirkfood for putting the hamper together, as well as the popular cheese platters served after lunch.

New Captain of the MECC Snooker Team

Michael Edwards will take over next year, as Captain of the Mount Eliza Country Club snooker team.

We wish him well, in his new role as Captain of this fine team of men, and... we look forward
to success against Sandringham Club, and the near-permanent return of the Snooker Cup, to it's
    rightful position -

BEHIND THE BAR, HERE AT OUR CLUB!!

A reminder, too, for all snooker; pool and billiard players...

Alex Wright is working hard to bring these in-house competitions, up to date.
Please keep your eye on the Notice Board and enter the competitions when requested.

We then need everyon's co-operation to speedily complete these earlier competitions, by playing your
games as soon as possible. Hopefully, we will be up to date by the end of next year, and get back to a more leisurely pace of event!

Any questions regarding snooker, pool or billiards should be directed to Alex, Michael or myself.

    Regards,
    Chris Bussau
